The trick behind these stripes – Offset effect for Cricut, Silhouette & Brother

Especially with detailed plotter designs, backgrounds or multi-colored elements can quickly look too cluttered. However, I still wanted that cool striped look in the background — without the stripes completely stealing the show from the actual design.

And that is exactly why I am going to show you step by step how you can easily create this offset effect yourself ☺️

instructions

Silhouette Studio

In Silhouette Studio, first select your design and then click on "Offset".

Now you can adjust the distance.

After that, move the design aside briefly, select the stripes together with the offset, and click "Subtract" under "Modify".

If any tiny dots appear, you can simply delete them and then join the paths again at the end.

Brother Canvas Workspace

And in Brother CanvasWorkspace, you also select the design first and create an offset using "Offset."

Then set the distance and confirm.

Now select all offset layers, group them, and move the offset layer behind your design.

After that, move the design away again, select the stripes together with the offset, and click on "Subtract."

And just like that, you have this cool background effect ✨
